Analysis Back to Top
Q. Can uReveal analyze e-mails?
A. Yes. Currently, uReveal can be used to analyze .MSG and .EML formatted documents.
Q. How are misspellings handled?
A. Fuzzy logic is incorporated into our analysis process using our WordNet thesaurus. This allows us to capture misspellings, making our analysis more relevant and accurate.
Q. How do you show time trends?
A. Since every concept is a dimension in uReveal's unstructured data analytics, time is a dimension that can be created as a concept(s). Time trending analysis can be generated using these concepts.
Q. If I delete a concept from the Concept Bank that I have used in my analysis previously, will I still see that concept in the existing results?
A. The Concept will still be shown in results that were generated prior to its deletion. However, the ability to click through on count links, or the concept itself will not return results.
Q. What is the difference between Relationship Discovery Analysis and Concept vs. Concept Analysis? They appear to be the same thing to me.
A. Concept vs. Concept Analysis is a broad-stroke look at how selected concepts relate to each other based on the number of times they occur in the data. Relationship Discovery Analysis adds the ability to adds proximity into the process for more depth.
Q. Can I run analysis on data that has not been categorized into folders in my workspace?
A. In order to run any analysis other than Summarization and Drilldown, the data must be categorized into folders, and must be part of a workspace that the user has access to.
Q. What is the difference between Normalized Score and Absolute Count in analysis results?
A. Normalized Score shows the user a percentage value for the selected concept against the entire block of data. Absolute Count shows the actual Document Count generated by the concept in the selected analysis.

Batch Process Back to Top
Q. If I submit a job, and it shows in process, and something happens to the server where the application resides such as a power outage, will the jobs restart when the machine is brought back on line?
A. If a server loses power while a batch process is running, the job must be restarted by the user. We do not currently have the capability of resuming a batch process if there has been a hardware failure of any kind.

Browsers Back to Top
Q. Will uReveal work with browsers such as Netscape or Mozilla Firefox?
A. Microsoft Internet Explorer v 6.0 is a requirement for proper operation of uReveal.

Concept Bank Back to Top
Q. How often does uReveal update the concept banks (e.g. names of heads of state, dates) that it uses?
A. uReveal does not update concept banks independently. This is reliant upon the user to keep the concept banks relevant and up to date. This can be done as often as is required.
Q. How many levels of hierarchy are available?
A. There is no set number of levels involved with Hierarchy. It is unlimited.
Q. Can the concept bank be shared? How is that done?
A. Concept banks can be shared by multiple users by assigning it to them upon creation, or by sharing the workspace through Workspace Options.
Q. Why am I getting an error message indicating that some of my concepts were excluded during an import?
A. There are invalid symbolics that are not permitted for concepts on import. If you receive this message, the concepts which have been excluded will be documented in the Comlog.log, accessible by the administrator.
Q. How do I determine which concepts were excluded during an import and why?
A. All concepts that are excluded from an import will be written to the Comlog.log file. An administrator can view this log to determine what the concepts were, and why they were excluded.
Q. If I'm working on an analysis piece, and realize that there is a concept that I don't currently have in my Concept Bank that I need to add, do I have to go back to the Concept Bank to add it, or can I add that on the fly from where I am working currently?
A. The user has the ability to add concepts from anywhere within the product by clicking on the Concept link at the top of the screen. Once the newly added concept has been indexed, the user should be able to use that in all analysis.
Q. Can a concept include a numeric range?
A. Yes, a numeric range can be used as long as it follows the proper syntax requirements. We offer online help from within the product that offers recommended formatting for concepts.
Q. If the application server does not have Microsoft Office loaded on it, can I import Concept Banks that are created using Excel?
A. Yes. As long as they are properly formatted, users are able to import Concept Banks from Excel even if Microsoft Office is not loaded on the server.
Q. Should I archive my current installation prior to performing an upgrade to a newer version of uReveal?
A. We strongly recommend that users do archive their installations as often as possible in order to prevent loss of any work that has been performed in uReveal. This is especially important when performing an upgrade of the existing uReveal application. The Archive and Restore process is documented in online help, and in the Administrative User Guide.

Data Back to Top
Q. How do I organize my files?
A. You can use uReveal's Organize feature to automatically route files into relevant folders. After adding folders with relevant concepts, the user can then click the Organize link on the data page to categorize data into specified folders.
Q. How do I create folders?
A. Click the Add Folder link on the Data page to create new folders. During this process, you can add unique Concepts to the folder that can be used to automatically Organize data relevant to these folders.
Q. What types of files can I ingest into uReveal?
A. .wpd, .eml, .doc, .htm, .html, .rtf, .ppt, .dll, .asp, .xls, .pdf, .msg, .xml, .abcd (any ascii text file with any extension provided these are defined within Tbenviron table), .txt, and Extracts from DB to .txt files.
Q. What file types are acceptable in uReveal?
A. .wpd, .eml, .doc, .htm, .html, .rtf, .ppt, .dll, .asp, .xls, .pdf, .msg, .xml, .abcd (any ascii text file with any extension provided these are defined within Tbenviron table), .txt, and Extracts from DB to .txt files.
Q. Why can't I see my data in my folders?
A. Possible that you do not have permission to that file. Talk to your local administrator to determine whether this is the case. This could also be an issue with a missing virtual directory in IIS for the source drive where the data originated.
Q. Can IxReveal add another button on the Ingest screen for their specific data repository?
A. Since data ingests are done from within a specific workspace, no new button is necessary to select the data repository.
Q. How many Google search responses can be ingested at a time?
A. uReveal can ingest up to 100 Google or MSN search responses at a time.
Q. What data types can be ingested – PDF, email, docs, etc.?
A. .wpd, .eml, .doc, .htm, .html, .rtf, .ppt, .dll, .asp, .xls, .pdf, .msg, .xml, .abcd (any ascii text file with any extension provided these are defined within Tbenviron table), .txt, and Extracts from DB to .txt files.
Q. How can I find out why my files did not upload?
A. If a data ingest was attempted, and no files were uploaded, the administrator can pull the Error Log details to determine why it failed.
Q. What files are required to restore an archived database?
A. In order to restore an archived database, the Database Backup and Projects folders need to be copied to the root directory of uReveal on the machine where the user wants to restore them.
Q. If I accidentally delete data from a workspace, is there a way to restore it without having to re-ingest?
A. If the data was accidentally deleted, but has not been purged, then the user can go to the recycle bin, select the data, and remove it from the recycle bin and place it back in the workspace.
Q. Why is it that if I delete data, then try to re-ingest it immediately, I get a message indicating that the data has already been ingested/indexed?
A. If a user deletes data from a workspace, but does not complete the process by purging the data from the recycle bin, and from the database, this will happen. In order to complete the process so that it can be re-ingested, all steps must be followed.
Q. Why do I only see a handful of documents under my folders in the data screen. Is there a way to allow me to view more than the five I see currently before having to click 'Next'?
A. The administrator is able to adjust the display settings for the interface by making adjustments in the IntelliDB for the individual users. These settings can be changed in the IX_UserPreferences table by adjusting the Analysis-DataSnap-NoRows field.
Q. Is it possible to archive a project on one machine and restore it on another one?
A. Yes. Once an archive is completed, the administrator can copy the Database Backup and Project folders to another server that has the same build from which the archive was created loaded on it, and they can restore it there.
Q. Is there a way for users to back up their data so that nothing gets lost?
A. Administrators can archive the database at any given point in order to protect the data from loss or corruption.
Q. Does uReveal have the capability of archiving individual workspaces or users data?
A. The archive feature in uReveal does not focus on a single user or workspace, but archives the entire database on a particular server. It does not target archiving to a single user or workspace.

Install Back to Top
Q. Is Microsoft Office required in order to use uReveal?
A. No.
Q. I encountered errors during the upgrade to 4.2 indicating that IXService was unable to log on as IxRevealServiceAcct with the currently configured password due to an unknown user name or bad password. Why?
A. There have been changes made to the installation process for uReveal 4.2 that require some pre-installation set-up. In this particular instance, IxService is attempting to login as the local user “ixrevealserviceacct” with a bad password. This password is entered during the setup of uReveal and must match the password for that username on the local computer, in the case of a local install of uReveal. To fix this, go to Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups -> Users and find the “ixrevealserviceacct”. Right click on it and click Set Password, enter a new password, then navigate lower in Computer Management and open Services and Applications -> click Services and find the Ixservice. Right click on IxService, click Properties, and select the Log on tab and verify that the local “ixrevealserviceacct” is entered under “Log On As: This account” and enter the new password you entered above, and then enter it again to verify. Click back to the General tab and click Start to attempt to start the service. If the passwords match, it should start. You can also check the Security event log on the computer for logon success.
Q. What are the database permissions in SQL server that are required for the IxRevealUsers group and the IxRevealServiceAcct user?
A. For the IxRevealUsers group and IxRevealServiceAcct user, they should have DB Owner and public role for the IntelliDB.

Job Status Back to Top
Q. Why am I seeing jobs queued up in Job Status but they are not running?
A. In most instances, when this behavior is noted, it is one of two issues. First, it could be as simple as IxService not being started. Starting the service will trigger the batch jobs. It could also be a permissions issue for the user.
Q. I am logged in as an individual user on a server that has several other users working on it simultaneously. I submitted a concept import and it has been queued up for several minutes and has not started. What could cause this?
A. In an environment with multiple users, it is possible that you could submit a job that may be queued up while it waits for another job to complete for another user. If you see a job pending for too long, contact your administrator to determine why.
Q. I am logged in as an individual user on a server that has several other users working on it simultaneously. I submitted a data ingest (Data Access) and it has been queued up for several minutes and has not started. What could cause this?
A. In an environment with multiple users, it is possible that you could submit a job that may be queued up while it waits for another job to complete for another user. If you see a job pending for too long, contact your administrator to determine why.

Learn Back to Top
Q. Do I have to run Learning on my data?
A. If you have an existing concept bank or ontology, it is not necessary to run Learning against data. Learning gives users the ability to identify new concepts that may improve their analysis by adding additional detail.
Q. What do the settings that default in Learning do and how do they work?
A. The default setting for Learning algorithm generates themes/exceptions based on predefined weightage to grammar, sampling %, and regional weights.
Q. If I want to change the defaults to adjust my Learning results, what values should I use?
A. Recommended settings are available in our User Guide and through online help by clicking on the "?" icon on the learning screen.
Q. What is the easiest way for me to get value out of my documents?
A. If you are beginning a new project with no preconceived concept banks, once the data has been ingested into uReveal, the best way to get value from the documents is to run a Learning analysis to generate concepts to begin the process.
Q. What do the different document type selections in learning do, and how do I know which to choose?
A. These different choices apply logic to the learning process based on general assumptions about the formats used in these options. The selections are clearly defined in the interface. The user selects the option that best represents their data.
Q. How do I edit my results in learning to include only those concepts that I want to add to my Concept Bank?
A. Within the interface, they are able to edit learning results to remove those concepts that they do not wish to use. They can also export the results to Excel or CSV and edit them outside of our interface.
Q. What happens if I submit a Learn but fail to make the correct selection for the data type? Will this have an impact on the results?
A. Yes. Any adjustment to the settings for learning will ultimately impact the learning results. If the user does not make the correct selections, the desired results may not be returned.
